Two separate alcohol-related incidents in the Central Division have resulted in arrests and police investigations, prompting another warning from the Fiji Police Force about excessive drinking.

The first incident occurred at Caubati New Subdivision on September 5, 2026.

Police allege that a man in his 40s stabbed a 26-year-old several times with a pair of scissors following an argument.

Both men suffered injuries during the altercation and were taken to Colonial War Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Police say both were heavily intoxicated at the time.

The older man was later discharged from hospital and remains in police custody as investigations into the incident continue.

In a separate case, a 40-year-old man was arrested in Lami on the night of September 7 after he was allegedly found drinking liquor in a public place.

Police allege the man assaulted a police officer, damaged police uniforms, and verbally abused and threatened officers at the scene.

He has since been charged with one count each of drinking in a public place, serious assault, damaging property and criminal intimidation.

He is expected to appear at the Suva Magistrates Court today, September 10, 2026.

The Fiji Police Force is urging people to drink responsibly, warning that excessive alcohol consumption can contribute to violence and create wider safety and security concerns in communities.
