Fiji and Australia marked the opening of the Vuniyasi Bridge in Nadi today, 23 February. This has symbolised both countries ongoing partnership to enhance infrastructure in Fiji.
The event was attended by Australian High Commissioner, Ewen McDonald and Public Works Minister, Ro Filipe Tuisawau.
The bridge opening signifies the commitment of both countries to delivering sustainable infrastructure through their Vuvale Partnership. It ensures continued connectivity and economic growth for Fiji with improved resilience to climate change.
Funded by the Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific (AIFFP), the project has also generated local employment opportunities.
The Vuniyasi Bridge, part of the Fiji Transport Infrastructure Restoration Project, replaces an old bridge and is designed to withstand extreme weather events, serving as an important connection between major towns and cities in Fiji.
