The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) will introduce overnight water rationing in parts of Suva as prolonged dry weather and low rainfall continue to affect water production at the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant.
The controlled supply rationing will run daily from 9 pm to 4 am, until further notice.
WAF says the treatment plant is receiving reduced raw water inflows from the Savura Cascade and Headworks 3 catchments, resulting in an estimated 15 per cent reduction in water inflow and production.
The reduction has placed pressure on reservoir storage and the authority’s ability to maintain consistent supply, particularly in elevated areas.
Under the temporary arrangement, WAF will carry out controlled valve operations overnight to allow water levels at the Tamavua Reservoir to recover when demand is lower.
Customers in affected areas may experience low water pressure, intermittent supply or complete water disruptions between 9 pm and 4 am.
