The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has cleared a wastewater blockage that caused an overflow along Matanikorovatu Road in Makoi.
WAF’s operations team attended the site after the issue was reported and confirmed that the blockage was caused by clothing and other foreign objects illegally dumped into the wastewater network.
The Authority is reminding residents that its wastewater system is designed to carry wastewater only. Items such as clothing, wipes, plastics and sanitary products can obstruct the network and result in overflows that may pose risks to public health and the environment.
WAF is urging customers and communities to dispose of waste properly and ensure foreign materials are not placed into the wastewater system.
The Authority has thanked residents for reporting the incident and says it remains committed to maintaining reliable wastewater services and responding to issues that could affect communities and the environment.
