Residents of Yanuca Island are receiving assistance as the Government responds to water shortages brought on by prolonged dry conditions.
The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, through the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO), is working with the Divisional Commissioner Central Office to coordinate a water carting operation on the island.
The MLC Vunilagi was deployed on 7 October 2026 and is currently transporting water to communities affected by the ongoing dry spell and reduced water availability.
The operation forms part of the Government’s response to communities experiencing water stress, with efforts focused on ensuring access to essential water supplies while dry conditions continue.
NDRMO is coordinating the response alongside the Fiji Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport and the Water Authority of Fiji.
The agencies are working together to monitor water needs and coordinate supplies for affected communities.
Residents are being urged to conserve available water and use supplies carefully as authorities continue to respond to the shortage.
The Government says it will continue supporting communities affected by the dry conditions and work to ensure essential water reaches those most in need.
