At just 22 years old, Kelevi Stark is blending passion, tradition, and entrepreneurial grit to build his own business, Starks Catering and Events, with the help of the Government’s Graduate Business Start-Up Grant Scheme.
Inspired by his mother’s legacy as a food vendor at Suva Market, the University of the South Pacific student is now running a full-fledged catering service that handles everything from intimate family functions to corporate events.
Stark’s journey reflects the impact of targeted youth support programs and the power of cultural heritage in business.
The Graduate Business Start-Up Grant Scheme, included in the 2024–2025 National Budget with a $300,000 allocation, is administered by the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) and implemented by the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation (FCEF).
“I’m thankful for this programme,” Stark said. “It’s not just about funding—it’s about networking, growth, and building a future.”
Starting young is something he takes great pride in. “Years ago, it was unthinkable for someone my age to run a business. Today, I’m living that dream.
I feel honoured, privileged, and above all grateful,” he added.
