Fiji’s border security operations have been strengthened following the graduation of 20 Immigration Officers from the country’s first structured induction training programme.

The five-week training, conducted in collaboration with Australia and New Zealand, provided officers with extensive instruction in border management, immigration legislation and operational procedures through 30 specialised modules.

Permanent Secretary for Immigration, Aliki Salusalu, described the graduation as a major achievement for the Ministry, reminding officers that they serve as “guardians of national security.”

He encouraged the graduates to maintain high standards of professionalism, discipline, accountability and integrity while performing their duties.

Mr. Salusalu also raised concerns about increasing regional threats linked to organised crime, including drug trafficking, money laundering and cybercrime, stressing the importance of Pacific nations working together to strengthen border protection efforts.

He further acknowledged the ongoing support from the Australian Department of Home Affairs and Immigration New Zealand through regional partnerships focused on improving border security and resilience across the Pacific.
