The Ministry of Health has recorded 258 new cases of HIV and AIDS as of September, the highest number in a year so far.
While speaking at the World AIDS Day, Head of Family Health Dr Rachael Devi says the number is shocking, and is calling for a whole of community approach.
29 of this cases unfortunately passed away, which includes a teenager.
Human Rights Activist, Isikeli Vulavou says the number keeps increasing because the HIV Community continues to be neglected. Last year, government budget for the HIV department through the Health Ministry was $90,000.
Vulavou says, the department was receiving over $500,000 in government funding in 2005 and 2006.
