The Fiji and Japan diplomatic relationship will be further strengthened, following a commitment made to create a strategic dialogue between the two country’s Justice system.
Minister for Justice and Attorney General Siromi Turaga welcomes Japan’s Assistant Vice Minister for Justice, Shibata Noriko this morning, and adds that more opportunities are ahead.
For the first time, the different arms of the Ministry of Justice came together to deliberate on various issues affecting the ministry.
This includes the Office of the Attorney General, Public Prosecutions, FICAC, Legal Aid and the Fiji Corrections Services.
The Guest of Honour, Japan’s Assistant Vice Minister for Justice, SHIBATA Noriko made a commitment to propose a Strategic Dialogue for Law and Justice between the the two countries.
Attorney General Siromi Turaga says this dialogue will open more opportunies and create change in our Justice system.
The Dialogue will be held annually in both countries, to exchange information on legal practice, and policies.
Since Fiji’s independence in 1970, Japan has generously provided more than $1.6 billion through the Official Development Assistance (ODA), reflecting a commitment to our shared prosperity and well-being.
