Trysha Nand of Bethel Primary School in Labasa was one of ten primary school winners of the 2023 Westpac Women and Girls Education Grant.
Her family was thrilled with the news and the $500 prize money helped buy her school supplies for Year eight. She plans to attend Labasa College next year.
Aisha Prasad, another grant winner, plans to keep her funds for future studies. She won herself $500 for her winning poster in the 2023 Westpac Women and Girls Education Grant. Her mother supports her dream to become a lawyer.
Westpac Fiji in an effort to reduce paper usage has a digital platform for applicants to apply online but also provides paper forms for those applicants who do not access to the internet.
In this year’s competition, primary school participants are asked to draw a poster on the topic Show us what your best world would look like: where girls are given the support they need to succeed.
Secondary school participants are asked to write an essay(500 words maximum) on the topic What ‘Count Her In. Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress means to you and how would you bring this to life in Fiji?.
Tertiary or adult learners are asked to write an essay no more than 1,200 words on the topic Share an experience you’ve encountered or witnessed in Fiji that has shown how investing in women and girls helped to accelerate progress.
