The Fisheries and Forest Ministry, in collaboration with Fiji Pine Trust, is developing a 20-year Forest Management Plan for pine schemes in Maritime Islands.

Forestry Minister, Kalaveti Ravu highlighted progress on logging operations, mentioning 83 hectares to be harvested in Muani, Kadavu, with $600,000 allocated for barge costs.

Drelaga Holdings Limited and Burning Bush Pte. Limited are conducting logging, with the first load scheduled for 1 June.

Landowners will receive $60 per tonne, totaling an expected payout of $0.8 million.

Similar plans are in place for Lakeba, with $250,000 released for Fiji Pine Trust and Forest Power House contracted to construct Lakeba Port.

Landowners there anticipate a return of $960,000 for the initial licensed area.
