Suva Grammar School is marking its 64th anniversary with a week-long Diamond Jubilee celebration, highlighting the institution’s history, resilience, and spirit.

The Permanent Secretary for Education, Ms. Selina Kuruleca, conveyed warm congratulations on behalf of the Honorable Minister Mr. Aseri Radrodro and the Honorable Assistant Minister for Education Mr. Iliesa Valawalu to the school’s management, Board of Governors, Grammar Rise Up (GRU), PTFA, current students, and alumni both in Fiji and worldwide.

The celebrations, which began on May 18 and will culminate on May 25 with the Diamond Jubilee Ball, commemorate not just the school’s longevity but also its enduring spirit.

Established in July 1918 as two separate institutions for boys and girls under the Fijian Colonial Administration of the British Empire, Suva Grammar School was initially intended for Europeans, particularly the British. The two schools merged in 1960 to form Suva Grammar at its current location.

Ms. Kuruleca emphasized the significance of the event, celebrating the “Spirit of Grammar” – symbolized by lions, lionesses, and the durability of diamonds. She urged alumni to support the school not only through words but with actions, particularly in fundraising efforts for the new Grammar School Gym.

“Such initiatives by the ex-scholars are deeply appreciated. Your contribution towards academic and extracurricular activities is vital. It’s what will fuel the next generation of scholars, athletes, and change-makers,” she said.

The Diamond Jubilee is a reflection of the school’s legacy and the impact it has had on generations of students. The celebration is not just a milestone but a testament to Suva Grammar School’s commitment to nurturing future leaders.

As Suva Grammar celebrates its past, it also looks forward to the future with gratitude and a renewed commitment to excellence. Ms. Kuruleca concluded with a heartfelt message:

“Here’s to 60+4 years of excellence, friendship, and memories, and to many more years of success to come. And remember, as you celebrate, as we celebrate, let’s never forget that diamonds are still forever, and so is the spirit of Suva Grammar.”

The event ended in a spectacular fashion with all the alumni and their families coming together, reminiscing times gone.
