The groundbreaking mobile application YES App (Youth Education Sex App), created in collaboration with multiple stakeholders, is proudly launched by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Its purpose is to provide young Fijians with dependable and accurate information regarding gender equality, family planning, and sexual reproductive health.

The YES App, which offers young people ten years and older a plethora of information and tools, is now available for download on Google Play.

The purpose of the app is to provide young people with information and education regarding STIs and sexual reproductive health at youth-friendly clinics and service delivery points, as well as values, gender equality, sexuality, relationships, and referral services.

Ms. Turagabeci, Coordinator of Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, said,

“We are thrilled to introduce the YES App, a comprehensive tool that addresses the unique needs of young Fijians.”

“This app is a vital resource that will empower young people to make informed decisions about their sexual reproductive health, reduce gender-based violence, and promote gender equality.”

The Ministry of Youth and Sports’ evidence-based Family Life Education program for youth who are not enrolled in school serves as the foundation for the app. Adolescent pregnancies, gender-based violence, and sexually transmitted infections (STis) have all been demonstrated to decrease as a result of this program (GBV).

Young individuals who have been exposed to this education and information typically do the following in nations with comparable programs:

  1. Make their sexual debut at a later age
  2. When they decide to have sex, use condoms.
  3. Cut back on the quantity of sexual partners
  4. Expand the use of clinical services to obtain condoms and test for HIV and pregnancy

Key partners such as the Medical Services Pacific, Reproductive Health Association of Fiji Ministry of Health and Medical Services, USP, IPPF-SROP, Family Planning Australia, ABC-ID, and DFAT Australia were essential in making the YES App viable.

“We express our gratitude to DFAT Australia for its kind funding support of the Transformative Age Programme via the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA),” stated Mrs. Turagabeci, the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ Coordinator of Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights.

“This collaboration has enabled us to develop a comprehensive tool that will make a meaningful difference in the lives of young Fijians.”

The Ministry of Youth and Sports and its partners’ dedication to promoting healthy behaviors, reducing gender-based violence, and enabling young people to make educated decisions about their sexual and reproductive health is demonstrated via the YES App.
