Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka expressed his gratitude to the Sasakawa Peace Foundation for its strong commitment to Fiji’s development efforts, particularly in ocean-related projects.
In a meeting with the Foundation’s Ocean Policy Research Institute President Dr Hide Sakaguchi, PM Rabuka stated that advocacy carried out by the Foundation led to the formation of the first Pacific Leaders Summit meeting, in particular the 1989 Pacific Islands Conference in Tokyo attended by the late Prime Minister and President of Fiji, Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara.

Advocacy carried out by the Foundation has led to the formation of the first Pacific Leaders Summit meeting, in particular the 1989 Pacific Islands Conference in Tokyo attended by the late Prime Minister and President of Fiji, Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara.
Rabuka was received by Dr Sakaguchi at the Sasakawa Peace Foundation headquarters, following the PALM10 Summit in Tokyo, Japan.
Rabuka says that the Foundation has been instrumental in assisting Fiji as well as the Pacific region in development efforts and creating stronger bonds with and between these countries dotting the South Pacific and Japan.”
He discussed the Ocean of Peace for the Pacific region concept, stating that he is looking forward to presenting the proposal to the leaders of the Pacific in the upcoming PIF Leaders Meeting, to be held in Tonga in August.
During the meeting, Dr Sakaguchi thanked Rabuka for the opportunity to meet, expressing the foundation’s interest in supporting the Ocean of Peace concept, with continued cooperation in other areas of mutual interest.
Since its establishment in 1986, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation has continued to engage in various projects and activities that target contributing to human welfare, advancement of sound international society and establishment of world peace through international understanding, exchange and cooperation.
