Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka called on George Speight to reveal the truth, about who was behind the 2000 coup, as he is also a victim of his silence.
Rabuka said he did not get to speak to George Speight after his release but called on him to reveal the truth about the 2000 coup in the government’s truth and reconciliation efforts.
“He has a big role to tell the truth. I’m one of those that have been a victim of his silence because they have not told what they know about my non-involvement.”
Rabuka said the release of Speight and Stevens was decided by the mercy commission and had nothing to do with anyone in government or politics.
“It was the functioning of the prerogative of the Mercy Commission, nothing to do with anybody in government or anybody in politics.”
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Great Council of Chiefs Ratu Viliame Seruvakula has a different opinion when questioned about calls for Speight to reveal the truth of 2000.
“He doesn’t really need to get involved in that and I think the public don’t need to lure him towards that because it will land him in hot water,” he said.
Ratu Seruvakula said nothing changes and people should not live in fear.
“We just live our lives like the day before they came out, there’s nothing to worry about.”
The Prime Minister also assured the people that they have nothing to worry about following the release of Speight and Stevens.
