The Ministry of Agriculture has unveiled a new Crop and Livestock Guide aimed at improving crop production and promoting agricultural sustainability in Fiji.
The launch is expected to serve as a comprehensive roadmap, providing farmers with essential knowledge and practical strategies to enhance their farming practices.
Minister for Agriculture, Vatimi Rayalu, emphasized that the guide is designed to bridge the gap between agricultural research and its practical application in the field.
“Through this guide, we aim to bridge the gap between research and practical application through extension approaches, ensuring that every farmer, regardless of location or scale of operation, has access to the best farming and technologies”, Rayalu said.
By focusing on extension approaches, the Ministry aims to ensure that all farmers – regardless of the scale of their operations – have access to the best farming techniques and technologies available.
“With the inclusion of the livestock component, this guide will provide farmers with valuable insights on breeding, nutrition, health management and animal welfare”, Rayalu said.
The guide will offer farmers a range of resources, including practical advice on crop management, soil health, pest control, and the latest advancements in agricultural technology.
It will also focus on sustainable farming practices to help mitigate environmental challenges and improve the long-term viability of Fiji’s agriculture.
The Ministry hopes that this initiative will not only enhance food security but also support the livelihoods of farmers across the nation, driving further economic growth in the sector.
Through this comprehensive approach, the Ministry of Agriculture remains committed to building a sustainable future for the country’s agricultural industry, ensuring that farmers can continue to thrive in the face of changing climatic and market conditions.
