The re-establishment of the Drainage Board in Fiji is significant in our journey towards a more resilient and prosperous Fiji.

These were the closing remarks by the Agriculture and Waterways Permanent Secretary, Dr Andrew Tukana to the 33 newly appointed Drainage Board members in Suva this afternoon.

“As we come to the end of this historic event in the re-establishment of the Drainage Board, I am filled with a sense of hope and gratitude. The commitment and dedication displayed by each member of the newly inducted Drainage Board serve as a beacon of promise for the future of our agricultural sector and environmental stewardship. Your willingness to take on the monumental task of safeguarding our drainage systems and water management practices is truly commendable,” said Dr Tukana.

“Moving forward, let us remember that our success will be measured not just by the words spoken here today but by the actions we take from here onwards. The challenges ahead of us are great, but with the political will and a motivated team we should be able to overcome those challenges.”

Dr Tukana encouraged the new board members to always carry the spirit of collaboration, innovation, and shared responsibility.

“Together, we can build a Fiji that thrives in the face of adversity, that cherishes its land, and pave the way for generations to come.”

The new board members will be designated to their respective divisions and the Ministry will work towards strengthening and assisting them in their new roles.
