In an inspiring initiative aimed at fostering small business growth, the Fiji Development Bank (FDB) recently conducted a financial literacy session for the communities of Navuavua, Navutulevu, and Vatusekiyasawa in Rakiraki.

The session, which was part of the Climate Smart Gardening project by Homes of Hope and funded by Tearfund NZ, aimed to equip local small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs with valuable skills for financial management.

Led by Mr. Kaliova, FDB’s Manager in Rakiraki, the session focused on critical topics such as starting and managing a business, creating a robust business plan, handling cash flows, and ensuring effective financial planning.

“Many of you are millionaires without realizing it,” Kaliova shared with the participants, urging them to tap into their potential through the right financial strategies.

He also emphasized the importance of budgeting, saving, and investing—not just for business, but within families, as a means of personal and community development.

The FDB has been a key partner in supporting women in the region, offering small business loans that have significantly contributed to the improvement of living standards.

Kaliova underscored the importance of spreading financial literacy to empower emerging communities and foster sustainable business practices.

The training also aligns with the mission of Homes of Hope, which continues to focus on empowering young women and girls.

The initiative aims to provide safe spaces, enhance economic independence, and help break the cycle of violence and exploitation.

Through collaborative efforts like this, the communities of Rakiraki are taking important steps towards financial empowerment and growth.
