A group of 45 street dwellers have embarked on a new path through the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ “Easter on the Park” initiative, which aims to provide job-ready skills and long-term support to some of Fiji’s most vulnerable individuals.

The participants began their training this morning at the Fiji National University (FNU) Namaka Campus. The program includes vocational training in barbering, tour guiding, and baking, with the goal of equipping them with practical skills to enter the workforce and improve their livelihoods.

The group comprises:

>7 enrolled in barbering,

>20 in tour guiding,

>18 in baking and pastry.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports is leading the initiative, in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development, which is also working toward the construction of a safe house to support participants during their transition.

The government has framed this initiative as part of a broader effort to ensure no one is left behind in the country’s development. Officials say the program underscores a commitment to second chances, rehabilitation, and inclusive development.
