The 2025 Coca-Cola Games, Fiji’s premier secondary schools athletics competition, has been officially declared a drug-free event by Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro. Speaking at a press conference yesterday, the Minister outlined a wide range of measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students and the wider public during the three-day event, which will take place from April 24–26 at the HFC Stadium in Suva.

The Ministry of Education is collaborating with the Fiji Police Force, the Ministry of Health, and other key stakeholders to promote a secure, respectful, and drug-free environment for all attendees.

Enhanced Safety Measures Announced:

  • Strict no-drug policy: Any individual found with illegal substances will face serious consequences.
  • Heavy police presence: The Fiji Police Force will conduct bag checks at entry points and deploy K9 units trained to detect drugs.
  • Surveillance: CCTV cameras and drones will monitor the stadium and surrounding areas.
  • Drug testing: Suspected drug use may lead to on-site testing.
  • Road checkpoints: Police and the Land Transport Authority will conduct roadside checks in the vicinity of the event.

Guidelines for Schools and Supporters:

  • Supervision: Heads of schools are required to ensure teachers accompany student-athletes to and from the Games.
  • Conduct: Students are expected to demonstrate respectful behaviour in public spaces and while travelling.
  • Transport: Bus drivers are urged to maintain safe speeds and play music at appropriate volumes.
  • Health support: Medical officers and counselors will be stationed at the stadium to assist any students in need.
  • Awareness: Drug prevention brochures will be distributed throughout the venue.

Minister Radrodro reminded parents and guardians to have proactive conversations with their children about safety and conduct during the event.

“The Coca-Cola Games are a celebration of our young people. Let’s make sure they stay safe and positive. Everyone has a role to play in making this year’s event one to remember for all the right reasons,” said the Minister. The Ministry is encouraging full community cooperation to uphold the values of the Coca-Cola Games and protect the integrity of one of Fiji’s most celebrated youth events.
