As Tourism Super Week comes to a close, the Fiji Government, through the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, is celebrating the success of its Tour Guide Training Program; an initiative focused on building a skilled, professional tourism workforce.
The program brought together industry experts, aspiring tour guides, and policymakers to equip participants with internationally recognized certifications and practical knowledge. With a focus on service excellence, cultural integrity, and sustainable tourism, the training supports the country’s ambition to maintain its status as a leading global destination.
Aligned with the National Development Plan and the National Sustainable Tourism Framework, the program reinforces legal standards under the Tourism Industry Act and Civil Aviation Regulations. It also forms part of the government’s broader strategy to support inclusive economic growth and resilience in the tourism sector.
Tourism remains one of Fiji’s largest economic drivers- contributing over 40% of GDP. By professionalizing tour guiding and expanding opportunities for individuals in rural and maritime regions, the government aims to create jobs, improve livelihoods, and promote high-quality visitor experiences that increase tourist spending and boost small businesses.
The Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation said the training was part of a long-term effort to future-proof the industry:
“Investing in human capital is investing in Fiji’s future.”
The Tour Guide Training Program is one of several workforce development efforts, including certifications in hospitality, digital tourism, and eco-tourism. These programs aim to build a resilient and globally competitive tourism industry.
The Ministry thanked all training partners and participants for their commitment and expressed optimism for continued progress in strengthening Fiji’s tourism workforce.
