Telecom Fiji and the Fiji Police Force have formalised a strategic partnership to launch the Safe City Project, an initiative designed to enhance public safety using advanced surveillance and network technology.

The agreement, signed this week, outlines the installation of high-speed fibre connectivity and closed-circuit television (CCTV) infrastructure along the Suva to Nausori corridor. All surveillance feeds will be monitored in real time at the Fiji Police Command Centre at Central Police Station in Suva.

Telecom Fiji’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Charles Goundar, described the project as a transformative step in national security.

“This milestone project is more than just technology; it’s about creating safer communities for all Fijians. We are proud to partner with the Fiji Police Force to deliver a solution that not only improves public safety but also lays the groundwork for smarter cities,” he said.

Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu, underscored the importance of integrating digital infrastructure into modern policing.

“This is a critical development aligned with our organisational goal to maximise the use of technology. With real-time monitoring and expanded coverage, we will be better positioned to deter criminal activity and ensure rapid response to incidents,” he said.

The Safe City Project is expected to serve as a pilot for broader implementation across Fiji, eventually forming a nationally integrated public safety network.
