A significant infrastructure milestone is underway in Koronivia as the road leading to Nakaikogo Primary School receives tar sealing for the first time. The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) is currently rehabilitating a 2.4-kilometre stretch, bringing long-awaited improvements for residents, farmers, and students in the area.

For years, Koronivia residents endured muddy and dusty conditions that disrupted daily life. Now, the sealed road promises improved access for vehicles and pedestrians, with 660 metres of sealing already completed and 700 metres of shoulder widening underway. Completion is expected by early July.

Resident Litiana Tiko, a mother and long-time community member, shared how the new road will improve access to education for children.

“In the past, heavy rain made the road so bad we couldn’t even send our children to school. Now, we’re relieved and happy; this development will bring real change,” she said.

Tiko also highlighted the daily challenges caused by dust.

“We had to rewash clothes and use nets to shield our homes from the dust. It’s been tough.”

Farmers are also welcoming the upgrade. Waisea Tava, a local farm assistant, said the road had been a major obstacle for transporting produce.

“Now buyers can reach us more easily, and the whole process is much more convenient,” he said.

Advisory councillor Satya Deo added that the works had begun sooner than expected.

“Koronivia is growing fast. With new businesses and many farmers in the area, this road will support that development.”

FRA reaffirmed its commitment to improving infrastructure that supports economic growth and access to services. The Koronivia project is part of its wider national plan to upgrade rural roads and bridges across Fiji.
