FNU Vice-Chancellor Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba meeting the FNU Senior Leadership Team and FNU Council.
In a significant move to bolster educational accessibility and regional development, the Fiji National University (FNU) has announced its plans to recommence the development of the Naiyaca Campus in Labasa.
The decision, reached during the 58th FNU Council Meeting held in Labasa on Monday 11 March, reflects the university’s commitment to advancing education opportunities in the Northern Division and beyond.
Since assuming office in November last year, FNU Vice-Chancellor Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba has prioritized the expansion of educational access and equity.
“Naiyaca Campus represents a significant leap forward in providing quality educational opportunities to the people of Macuata, Bua, Cakaudrove provinces, and beyond,” Professor Nabobo-Baba remarked, highlighting the campus’s potential to serve a wide demographic.
Aligned with the Fijian Government’s Look-North Policy, the establishment of the new campus underscores FNU’s dedication to extending educational reach and promoting equitable resource distribution.
“The university is committed to serving the people of the Northern Division,” affirmed Professor Nabobo-Baba, emphasizing the project’s alignment with national priorities.
By fostering collaboration between academia and industry partners, FNU aims to promote research and innovation to address local challenges and drive sustainable development within the Northern Division.
The curriculum at Naiyaca Campus will span from certificate courses to advanced degrees, ensuring inclusivity and catering to diverse student needs.
Practical experiences, including internships with industry partners, will be integrated into academic programs to equip students with the skills necessary for the workforce or entrepreneurial ventures.
Moreover, the focus on high-demand fields such as agriculture, tourism, and entrepreneurship is poised to contribute to local economic empowerment and growth, aligning with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and Fiji’s National Development Plan objectives.
The resumption of development at Naiyaca Campus signals a promising step towards enhancing educational access and fostering sustainable regional development in Fiji.
