Fiji this week hosted the Pacific Regional Workshop on the Enhanced Transparency Framework and Peer-to-Peer Learning, bringing together climate transparency representatives from across the Pacific Islands to strengthen national reporting capacities under the Paris Agreement.

The four-day workshop, held from 20–23 May 2025 in Nadi, was a joint initiative by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme Copenhagen Climate Centre, CBIT Global Support Programme, GIZ through the Regional Pacific NDC Hub, the Consultative Group of Experts (CGE), and the Global Green Growth Institute.

The workshop focused on advancing the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF), delivering tailored training in greenhouse gas inventory methodologies and preparation of Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs) suited to the unique contexts of Pacific Island Countries (PICs).

Fiji’s experience took center stage on Day Four, with the country sharing insights from its CBIT Project and institutional arrangements aligned with the Climate Change Act 2021, which has 13 of 17 parts now in force. Fiji’s national systems aim to improve climate data reporting and cross-agency collaboration.

Opening the workshop, Director of Climate Change Ms. Senivasa Waqairamasi said, “ETF is more than just a reporting mechanism; it’s evidence of our region’s commitment to climate action, despite contributing minimally to global emissions.”

The event also served as a platform for peer-to-peer learning, enhancing collaboration among national stakeholders and reinforcing the importance of regional solidarity in tackling global climate challenges.
