The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, has disrupted 87 flights both international and domestic at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali.

According to airport authorities, 66 international flights were affected, including routes connecting Bali to major cities such as Adelaide, Auckland, Brisbane, New Delhi, Darwin, Kuala Lumpur, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Perth, Pudong, Singapore, Sydney, and Ho Chi Minh City.

This includes 33 incoming and 33 outgoing flights.

On the domestic front, 21 flights were impacted 11 arrivals and 10 departures to and from Cengkareng, Labuan Bajo, and Tambolaka.

Gede Eka Sandi Asmadi, Head of Communication and Legal Division at Ngurah Rai Airport, said that although flight schedules were affected, the airport’s operations remained largely unaffected.

“Despite the disruption, there is no volcanic ash detected near the airport. We are actively coordinating with stakeholders to ensure service continuity,” he said Wednesday evening.

This was confirmed through a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen), with reference number A1704/25, declaring that the airport continues to operate under normal conditions.

The assessment came after a paper test showed no volcanic ash in the area.

Airlines are responding by rescheduling affected flights and offering online refund and cancellation options to avoid congestion at the airport.

For passengers already present, a help desk has been set up to facilitate changes, while support facilities such as free bottled water and secure rest areas for luggage have been arranged.

Airport authorities hope the situation stabilizes soon as monitoring of volcanic activity continues.
