The Frank Hilton Organization (FHO), a leading advocate and service provider for children with disabilities in Fiji, continues to transform lives through its unwavering commitment to early detection, intervention, and access to healthcare and education.
While the Organization receives support through the national budget, the demand for its services has grown exponentially, leaving a funding shortfall of approximately 40%. On average, client requests increase by 25% annually, placing significant pressure on FHO’s limited capacity. As demand grows, so does the need to maintain the quality and reach of its specialized programmes.
To bridge this funding gap, FHO has turned to innovative fundraising initiatives, with one of its most anticipated events being the annual “Amazing Wheelbarrow Race – Bara Battle.” Since its launch in 2016, the event has become a vibrant gathering of corporate teams and individuals promoting teamwork, health, and community spirit. More than just a race, the event draws large crowds and raises critical funds that directly impact the lives of children with disabilities.
From humble beginnings more than 65 years ago as a small care facility, FHO has grown into a national movement that champions the rights of every child to live with dignity, access essential services, and thrive in an inclusive society.
Today, FHO is proudly recognized as a Centre of Excellence, delivering world-class, evidence-based services to over 500 children and their families annually. In just the past two years, the organization has:
Spent FJ$80,000 to provide mobility devices to 259 children
Allocated FJ$70,000 for hearing aids and hearing support for 226 children
Invested FJ$75,000 to deliver therapy services to 627 children in rural communities, including physiotherapy, speech therapy, and safe feeding support
Provided 24/7 residential care at Hilton Home for 13 children with high support needs who have no family
Conducted training for teachers and healthcare professionals to build capacity in schools, clinics, and community settings
These achievements are made possible through the generosity of donors, sponsors, and partners who believe in building a more inclusive Fiji – one where every child, regardless of ability, is supported and has the right to belong.
“Our mission is clear,” said Sureni Perera, CEO of the Frank Hilton Organization. “We are committed to expanding our reach, developing impactful programmes, and continuing to deliver high-quality services that make a real difference in the lives of children and their families. With continued support from the corporate sector, philanthropists, and stakeholders, we are building a more inclusive Fiji; one child at a time.”
