The Ministry of Health and Medical Services successfully hosted its second National Health Executive Committee (NHEC) meeting today in Tau Village, Wai District, Nadroga, marking another step in bringing health governance closer to communities.
The meeting, which serves as the Ministry’s key policy and decision-making forum, focused on reviewing and endorsing health policies while outlining the strategic direction for the upcoming quarter.
Notably, the NHEC includes nursing and allied health professionals, forming a diverse and inclusive team tasked with driving the country’s health agenda forward.
This marks the second time the committee has held its deliberations within a rural community, an initiative designed to bridge the gap between the Ministry and the people it serves.
Minister for Health and Medical Services, Hon. Dr. Atonio Lalabalavu, delivered the closing remarks by urging villagers to prioritize healthy living and to take full advantage of available health facilities.
He stressed that early detection remains key to successful treatment and long-term wellness.
To commemorate the occasion, Minister Lalabalavu unveiled a plaque in the village, followed by his participation in the traditional “vakavinavinaka” ceremony, extending gratitude to the villagers for their hospitality.
In response, the community celebrated the visit with vibrant singing and dancing.
The NHEC continues to play a critical role in aligning national health efforts with strategic priorities, addressing challenges, and championing equitable and quality care across the country.
