Fiji has launched the National Organic Policy 2026–2030, aimed at strengthening sustainable agriculture, improving food security and supporting farmers across the country.

Launching the policy at Teitei Farm in Sigatoka, Agriculture Minister Tomasi Tunabuna said the framework provides a pathway to address challenges such as climate change and rising production costs while protecting biodiversity and promoting healthier communities.

The policy focuses on expanding organic production, increasing market access, strengthening certification systems and improving support for the sector, with a strong emphasis on smallholder farmers, women and youth.

By 2030, Fiji aims to increase organically managed land from four percent to 20 percent, achieve certification for 50 percent of key export crops and encourage greater consumption of locally produced organic food.

The Ministry will establish an Organic Technical Working Group, appoint a full-time coordinator and introduce certification subsidies to support implementation.
