Police are investigating claims of an alleged attempted abduction at a school in Nausori following the circulation of a social media post.
The Fiji Police Force says officers from the Nausori Police Station began enquiries after the post alleged that a man had attempted to pick up a child from the school.
Police have since confirmed that the man photographed in the social media post has also lodged a report at the Lami Police Station, stating that he had gone to the school to visit his daughter and not for the reasons claimed online.
According to police, the man said he became aware of the allegations after family members saw the social media post and informed him, prompting him to make a report.
Investigations are continuing, with more people expected to be questioned as police work to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
The Fiji Police Force is urging members of the public to report suspected incidents to police and allow investigators to determine the circumstances before sharing unverified claims on social media.
