The Fiji National Provident Fund is celebrating a significant milestone this month as it marks 60 years of serving the people of Fiji, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the retirement savings of hundreds of thousands of members while continuing to drive national economic development.

Established in 1966, FNPF has grown from a modest compulsory savings scheme into one of the country’s largest financial institutions and institutional investors.

Over the past six decades, the Fund has evolved alongside Fiji’s economy, supporting generations of workers through retirement, housing, education, medical assistance and other life events.

From a modest startup loan of £10,000, today the Fund serves more than 447,000 members, manages assets exceeding $12.1 billion, and continues to deliver strong long-term investment returns through a diversified portfolio spanning government securities, property, commercial lending, local and international equities, and strategic investments.

FNPF Chief Executive Officer Viliame Vodonaivalu said the 60-year milestone was not simply a celebration of longevity, but a tribute to the trust that generations of Fijians have placed in the Fund.

“For sixty years, FNPF has stood alongside the people of Fiji through every stage of life. Behind every member account is a personal story of hard work, sacrifice and hope for a secure future. This milestone belongs to every worker, every employer and every family that has entrusted us with their retirement savings.”

Vodonaivalu said the Fund’s continued success was built on prudent governance, disciplined investment management and a clear focus on protecting members’ long-term financial wellbeing.

Over the past decade, FNPF has transformed the way it serves members through significant digital innovation, improved customer service, legislative reforms and expanded access to retirement and savings products.

The introduction of digital platforms such as the MyFNPF App, online member services and streamlined withdrawal processes has made accessing Fund services faster and more convenient than ever before.

The Fund has also continued to play a critical role in Fiji’s economic development through strategic investments that create employment opportunities, stimulate economic growth and generate sustainable long-term returns for members.

Vodonaivalu acknowledged the contributions of past and present Board members, management, staff, employers, government partners and members who have shaped the Fund’s journey over the past six decades.

“Our achievements are the result of dedicated stewardship and the confidence our members continue to place in us. We honour those who laid the foundation before us while embracing the opportunities that lie ahead.”

Looking to the future, Vodonaivalu said the Fund would continue investing in technology, strengthening member engagement, enhancing financial literacy and pursuing sustainable investment opportunities that deliver value over the long term.

As FNPF commemorates its diamond anniversary, the Fund extends its sincere appreciation to every member, employer and stakeholder who has been part of its journey over the past 60 years.
