Fiji Rugby has reaffirmed its commitment to women’s rugby, urging fans to rally behind the Vodafone Fijiana XV when they take on South Africa in a historic World Rugby-sanctioned Test Match at HFC Bank Stadium this Saturday.

The governing body issued a statement following public discussion around the scheduling of the international fixture alongside the Vodafone Deans and Weet-Bix Raluve National Quarterfinals.

Fiji Rugby says the decision was intentional, designed to showcase the entire rugby pathway from school-level talent to international representatives. Officials believe the occasion presents a unique opportunity for thousands of young players attending the Deans competition to witness elite women’s rugby firsthand.

Chief Executive Officer Koli Sewabu said the Vodafone Fijiana XV are not only representing Fiji but inspiring the next generation of athletes who dream of wearing the national jersey.

He encouraged supporters to arrive early, get behind the Fijiana side against South Africa, and help create a Test Match atmosphere worthy of the occasion.

Fiji Rugby Board Member Cathy Wong described the Test Match as one of the most important events on Fiji Rugby’s calendar, highlighting the sacrifices and commitment the players have made to earn their place on the international stage.

She said the presence of thousands of young rugby players in the stands could inspire future generations, particularly young girls who aspire to one day wear the Fijiana jersey.

Fiji Rugby also acknowledged the efforts of sponsors, partners, volunteers and supporters in making the international fixture possible, despite the logistical and financial challenges of hosting South Africa in Fiji.
