Fiji’s rising athletics star Maryann Macedru has capped off a historic campaign at the World Athletics U20 Championships, finishing 10th in the Women’s Shot Put Final.
The young field athlete recorded a best throw of 15.04 metres in the final against some of the world’s top junior competitors.
Macedru had already made history earlier in the competition when she secured a place in the final with a throw of 16.04 metres, setting a new personal best and breaking the Fiji national record in the process.
While she narrowly missed a top-eight finish, Macedru’s performance marks a significant achievement for Fiji athletics on the world stage, highlighting the country’s growing presence in field events.
The 16.04m throw not only earned her a place among the championship finalists but also reinforced her status as one of Fiji’s most promising young athletes.
Her record-breaking effort and appearance in the world final will be remembered as another milestone moment for Fiji athletics.
