Japan are the 2026 Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup champions after a hard-fought victory over the Fiji Water Flying Fijians in a thrilling final that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Fiji made the brighter start and headed into halftime with a narrow 12-10 lead, thanks to tries from Virimi Vakatawa and captain Tevita Ikanivere. The Flying Fijians looked poised to bring the title home after an energetic opening half, showcasing their trademark physicality and attacking flair.

However, the momentum shifted after the break as the intensity and pressure rose in a fiercely contested second half. With the Pacific Nations Cup title on the line, both sides battled relentlessly for supremacy.

The victory sees Japan crowned 2026 Pacific Nations Cup champions and rewarded with a significant rise in the World Rugby rankings. The Brave Blossoms are set to climb three places to ninth in the world rankings, becoming the higher-ranked side between the two finalists.

It marks Japan’s highest ranking since a brief two-week spell in ninth place in March 2023 and further highlights the growth of a team continuing to establish itself among the world’s elite rugby nations.
