Municipal councils across Fiji have issued 190 littering fines since the $200 fixed penalty came into effect under the Litter (Amendment) Act 2026.
Lautoka City Council recorded the highest number of fines with 70, followed by Nasinu Town Council with 45 and Sigatoka Town Council with 39.
Suva City Council issued 21 fines, while Nausori Town Council recorded nine and Nadi Town Council issued six.
Minister for Environment and Climate Change Lynda Tabuya has commended the councils for enforcing the law and urged them to continue raising public awareness about responsible waste disposal.
Ms Tabuya warned that people caught dumping rubbish in streets, drains, rivers and public spaces face a $200 penalty.
She also reminded the public that keeping Fiji clean is a shared responsibility and called on people to respect municipal workers, their communities and the environment by disposing of rubbish properly.
