Fiji has welcomed renewed support from Australia, India, Japan and the United States to modernise its port infrastructure and strengthen maritime connectivity.
The support was highlighted in a joint statement following the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, held on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia.
The commitment falls under the Quad Ports of the Future Partnership, which aims to support Fiji in developing modern port facilities and improving its maritime transport network.
The partnership is expected to strengthen Fiji’s trade competitiveness, improve access to regional and international markets, create opportunities for businesses and investment, and reinforce the country’s position as a regional maritime trade hub.
Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Sakiasi Ditoka, has acknowledged the continued support from the four partner countries, saying the cooperation aligns with Fiji’s national development priorities and the wider needs of the Pacific.
Mr Ditoka says continued collaboration will help advance infrastructure development, promote sustainable economic growth and strengthen regional integration.
The Government says the partnership reflects Fiji’s commitment to international cooperation and the development of resilient infrastructure to support long-term economic growth and regional connectivity.
