The Fijian Government formalised its ownership of the Fijian Drua franchise ahead of the Super Rugby Pacific 2023.

In order to meet New Zealand Rugby’s financial requirements, the Government invested $6 million in Counter Ruck Pte Limited, a company established by the Fiji Rugby Football Union Trust Board to own and operate the Fijian Drua.

In his remarks, the A-G said that the Fijian Government had invested $3 million to acquire an additional 255 shares.

With the second tranche of equity payout, the Drua will continue down the path of growth, giving young rugby players a pathway to aspire to and giving them the chance to play professional rugby right here at home, among their families and communities.

The A-G added that the Fijian Government’s equity investment positions the Fijian Drua for growth and ensures its long-term sustainability in an exciting and competitive sports environment. This will eliminate CRPL’s need to raise additional capital from the private sector, and will also reduce the need for additional capital in the medium term.
