Nineteen officers from the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways have completed a five-day Training of Trainers (TOT) course on Coconut Development was held in Taveuni from February 10-14.

The training focused on enhancing the officers’ knowledge of Fiji’s two main coconut cultivars—Dwarf and Tall—enabling them to distinguish between the varieties and better support coconut development initiatives in their respective regions.

Senior Agriculture Officer (Cakaudrove), Ms. Perina Susu, emphasized the importance of the training: “We are confident that after the training, the officers can accurately assess and support coconut development in their respective regions.”

The course was attended by 11 officers from the Eastern Division and eight from Cakaudrove Province, who gained insights into the coconut sector’s potential for agricultural growth in Fiji.

This professional development initiative is part of the Ministry’s broader mission to boost coconut farming and help officers promote sustainable practices and growth opportunities for coconut farmers.
