All schools across Fiji will remain closed on Monday, 2 March 2026, following widespread heavy rain and flooding.
The decision was announced by the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, after consultations with the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO) and assessments conducted by District Education Offices nationwide.
According to the Ministry, the move is aimed at safeguarding students, teachers, and school communities as adverse weather conditions continue to affect parts of the country.
Heads of Schools and teachers have been instructed to stay in close communication with their respective Management Committees and District Education Offices for further guidance.
They are also reminded to ensure that school premises are properly secured during the closure.
Parents and guardians are strongly encouraged to keep children at home and avoid unnecessary travel.
Authorities are warning against attempting to cross flooded roads, creeks, or rivers, and advise children not to swim in rivers or flood-affected areas.
The Ministry of Education, through its Disaster Risk Reduction Unit, will continue monitoring developments and provide updates, including when classes are expected to resume.
Officials stress that the safety and welfare of students and school communities remain the top priority.
