In a recent development, the Fa’asaleleaga No. 2 district council in Samoa has suspended its secretary amidst allegations of misappropriation.

The council took this action as they delve into the disappearance of SAT175,000, earmarked as part of the district development grant.

Deputy chair and committee members of the district council confirmed the suspension and the ongoing probe to the Samoa Observer on Thursday.

The Ministry of Finance, representing the steering committee, is reportedly spearheading the investigation.

Finance Minister Lautimu’ia Uelese Va’ai acknowledged the investigation’s progress but revealed that conclusive findings are yet to be determined.

The inquiry casts a shadow over Member of Parliament for Faasaleleaga No. 2, Magele Sekati Fiaui, who also serves as the Associate Minister of Finance.

Magele faces mounting pressure as inquiries into the missing funds persist.

The lack of communication from Magele has only fueled frustration within the district, delaying the implementation of crucial development projects.

As the investigation unfolds, questions linger regarding the utilization of the grant and the potential ramifications for the local community.
