A study and assessment is underway on the possibility of setting up a casino in Fiji.

While discussions around the topic have been posted on social media, the Project Head for David Groups and facilitator, Sandeep Singh has clarified with Fiji One news that they are still in the initial stages of discussion.

He says while there has been a lot of speculations on social media, he is currently conducting an assessment of how the investment will benefit our people and the restrictions that will have.

Singh says there is nothing official yet on this investment but confirms the Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica is aware of their plans.

Meanwhile the Minister while responding to Fiji One news says there is no active discussions on Casinos in Government.

Kamikamica confirms while there are potential investors that maybe interested but presently there are no formal plans by Government.

He says: “By formal plans I mean approval at Cabinet with the backing of the Honorable PM followed by a formal announcement.

Any suggestion in any form of media that Government is backing issuance of Casinos or supports Casinos is irresponsible and untrue. The establishment of Casinos is a issue that will concern the people of Fiji and must be handled with care and wisdom.”
