A contingent of approximately 170 has completed a four-week Pre-deployment Training (PDT) at the Blackrock Training Camp in Nadi for deployment with the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) in the Sinai. The Fiji Batt 41 who will be leaving our shores soon also consists of members of the Fiji Police Force (FPF) and Fiji Corrections Service (FCS).

Their main mission is to provide security at the South Camp and for the Civilian Observers Unit (COU), the verification arm of the MFO.

The troops spent the first week at the Lololo training ground where they went through weapon training drills. In the second week, they confirmed the skills learnt with day-and-night live firing exercise of the weapons at the Nausori Highlands.

Training in the third week consisted of a Mission Lane Training Exercise (MLTX). The 72-hour MLTX from August 29th to September 1st, 2022, simulated mission-specific tasks that the troops will be conducting on the ground. Likely scenarios were thrown in by the training team at Blackrock adding to the challenges faced by the draft troops.

The Commander, Joint Task Force Command, Brigadier General (Brig-Gen) Manoa Gadai visited the draft on exercise and was impressed by the standard and abilities of the troops who are commanded by Lieutenant Colonel (Lt-Col) Saula Koro.

Second Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment (2FIR) Honourary Colonel, Brigadier General Apakuki Kurusiga in closing the PDT on 9th September told the troops that they should be good ambassadors.

“Remember that first and foremost you will be there as representatives for Fiji. Your actions in the mission area not only reflect on you but they bring glory to our nation or tarnish our reputation,” Brig-Gen Kurusiga said.

The contingent presented two brush cutters to the Blackrock Camp as a token of appreciation during traditional ceremonies after the closing parade. Contingent Commander, Lt-Col Koro said that they want to give back to Blackrock something that will be useful for years to come especially in maintaining the general cleanliness of the facility.
