With countless years of experience in the teaching field of inclusive and special education, he suggested that the government in Fiji as well as the Pacific have recognized the importance in addressing the needs of individuals with down syndrome, alongside the policies and initiatives aiming for inclusivity in providing healthcare whilst enabling and introducing families to the support required.

He had also said that many individuals with down syndrome lead fulfilling lives, actively participating in education, employment and community activities.

Dr Kumar reiterates that families played a central role in providing support for individuals with down syndrome. He further adds that programs supporting educational programs that align with advocacy efforts have contributed to breaking down barriers and promoting a more inclusive society for individuals with down syndrome.

In his address, to quote;-

“While progress is being made, challenges persist, however, these challenges also present opportunities for community education, awareness campaigns, and the development of innovative solutions to address the unique needs of individuals with Down Syndrome in the Pacific context.” he says.

In the Pacific and especially in Fiji, he says that down syndrome is a story of resilience, cultural diversity, woven together with the on-going journey towards inclusivity. Embracing diversity not only enriches the lives of those with down syndrome, but also contributes to the overall fabric of Pacific societies, where within communities, every individual is valued and included at large.
