The Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation (FCEF) is calling on all employers across Fiji to prioritise compliance with labour laws and to cultivate a fair, safe and productive workplace for all employees.
In light of ongoing discussions regarding employment standards, FCEF emphasises the crucial role that adherence to these laws plays in fostering a harmonious business environment.
It comes after penalties were issued to two construction companies operating at a resort in Rakiraki, in relation to the terrible working conditions faced by their workers.
“While the majority of the businesses in Fiji, including our member’s, are responsible employers, FCEF will continue to promote the importance of operating within the labour laws in Fiji,” said Mr Edward Bernard, the Chief Executive Officer of FCEF.
Compliance with labour laws is essential for the well-being of both employees and employers and by upholding these regulations, businesses not only protect themselves from legal challenges but also contribute to a more motivated and engaged workforce.
To assist employers in understanding and navigating these requirements, FCEF has plans to launch a series of workshops and informational resources aimed at clarifying labour laws, providing practical compliance strategies and understanding the rights and responsibilities of employers and workers, including that of migrant workers.
These initiatives will empower employers to build a workplace culture rooted in fairness and respect.
FCEF also encourages open dialogue between employers and employees regarding rights and responsibilities. Establishing clear communication channels that can help address concerns proactively, fostering a more collaborative and positive workplace atmosphere.
