During the opening ceremony of the Fiji Tourism Exchange 2024 in Denarau, CEO of Fiji Airways, Andre Vilijoen, announced the airline’s intention to open a new destination in North America next year, aiming to further strengthen its presence in the Canadian market.

“Building upon our recent successful expansion into new markets such as Vancouver, we have ambitious plans for further growth, with several promising markets currently under consideration,” Vilijoen stated.

International buyers from Canada attending the Exchange expressed their hope that the new destination would be situated in Eastern America, particularly New York.

They believe this would offer more convenience to tourists, reducing travel time for those currently flying 5 to 6 hours to Vancouver before reaching Fiji.

Vilijoen emphasised that Fiji Airways is actively pursuing full membership in the OneWorld Alliance, recognising the significant benefits this would bring to traveler’s.

Last year, a record number of 929,740 visitors arrived in Fiji, ultimately boosting the local economy.

Tourism Fiji CEO Brent Hill says North America is one of Fiji’s key market and they will continue to make new and and interesting ways to bring the Fijian brand to life.

“We are so proud of our Fijian brand – Fiji; Where happiness comes naturally, which has gone out worldwide resonating with visitors who are seeking authentic experience”, Hill said.

The Fiji Tourism Exchange ends tomorrow at the Sheraton Resort in Denarau, Nadi.
