Fiji National Disaster Management Office launches National Humanitarian policy.

Against a background of rising concerns regarding disaster preparedness, Fiji National Disaster Management Office has taken a proactive step with the launch of its National Humanitarian Policy.

This initiative aims to provide comprehensive support to various stakeholders involved in disaster preparedness across the nation.

A 2-day workshop that is held at the Holiday Inn, Suva are poised to inform future policy implementations.

Recognising the critical importance of implementing and monitoring disaster preparedness policies, NDMO emphasizes the need to mitigate the impact of disasters on its communities.

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Isoa Talemaibua emphasised the necessity of efficient humanitarian responses to both natural and man-made disasters.

He underscored the significance of impending legislative changes, including the integration of the Fiji humanitarian cluster system and the establishment of a volunteer organisation’s registry within the revised national disaster management bill, recently endorsed by the cabinet.

Prishika Nadan, Humanitarian Coordination Officer of the Fiji National Disaster Management Office, outlined fifteen new thematic areas within the revised policy, reflecting the nation’s commitment to enhancing disaster resilience.

The unveiling of Fiji’s revised humanitarian policy marks a significant stride forward in the country’s disaster management endeavors, underscoring its dedication to safeguarding its people of Fiji against unexpected disasters.
