Senior leadership teams from the Fiji Police Force (FPF) and the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) convened today at the Police Headquarters in Laucala Beach to enhance coordination between the two institutions, particularly in areas of custody, rehabilitation, and community reintegration.
Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu and Acting Commissioner of Corrections Sevuloni Naucukidi led the dialogue, which focused on improving operational synergy and resolving technical issues that affect service delivery within the justice system.
Commissioner Tudravu emphasized the importance of seamless cooperation between both institutions, noting the Police’s dual role in both the custodial and post-custodial phases of the criminal justice process.
One of the key outcomes of the meeting was an agreement to deepen collaboration in rehabilitation and reintegration programs for ex-offenders.
This will involve coordinated community policing strategies aimed at supporting former inmates in their return to society and reducing repeat offending.
Acting Commissioner Naucukidi underscored the shared responsibility of both institutions in addressing the root causes of criminal behavior.
“Rehabilitation must be holistic, targeting not just individuals but the environments and circumstances that contribute to crime. When we work together, we not only reduce reoffending we help prevent others from entering the system altogether,” he said.
The meeting signals a renewed commitment from both FPF and FCS to work hand-in-hand across the justice sector for a safer and more rehabilitative Fiji.
