The Fiji Police Force is facing challenges of retaining specialized positions including canine handlers and forensics experts.
This was highlighted by the Assistant Commissioner of Police Aporosa Lutunauga who says that these positions face high competition due to better overseas opportunities, leading to migration.
ACP Lutunauga says a bond system is in place to retain officers for five years, but the higher earnings overseas often lead to bond payoffs.
He says the Police Commissioner has instructed the submission of a paper to the government to address the pay disparity and better remunerate these specialized roles.
ACP Lutunauga says this reflects the evolving security landscape and the need for qualified personnel.
