“The Pacific Partnership is a testament to the enduring bonds of friendship and cooperation that unite our nations.”

This was highlighted by the Minister for Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Sakiasi Ditoka at the opening of the Pacific Partnership 2023 today at the Grand Pacific Hotel.

In his opening remarks, Ditoka said the partnership as a result of its collaboration with the United States Navy, stands as a shining example of what nations can achieve when they unite to address shared challenges, working towards peace, resilience, and prosperity in the region.

“As we approach the cyclone season, it is a timely reminder of the vital role of cooperation in addressing the diverse challenges that confront us in the Pacific.”

“Our region is renowned not only for its natural beauty, the vastness of its ocean spaces and the peaceful serenity that its images conjure in our imagination but unfortunately, also for its vulnerability to natural disasters, the ever-present threat of climate change, and the pressing need to fortify our healthcare systems.”

Ditoka added the Pacific Partnership stands as a beacon of hope, symbolizing its resilience and embodies the values of compassion, solidarity, and the understanding that no single nation can tackle these challenges in isolation.

“Our partnership with the United States through the US Navy, the Center for Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance, and USAID epitomizes our shared commitment to humanitarian assistance and disaster response.”

“Through training, collaboration, and resource-sharing, we not only enhance our ability to respond to disasters effectively but also strengthen our capacity to provide essential services like healthcare and education.”

In closing Ditoka extended his heartfelt appreciation to the United States Navy and all partners for their unwavering support and collaboration.

“Let us join forces, working hand in hand, to ensure that Pacific Partnership 2023 becomes an unequivocal success. Thank you and let us commence this incredible journey of resilience and hope. May our efforts help to bring prosperity, health, and happiness to the people of Fiji and the Pacific.”
