During the launch of the Congress of the International Alliance of Waste Pickers in Argentina, Lucía Fernández, the Acting General Secretary, wore a Fijian sulu, symbolising solidarity with recycling efforts in Fiji and the wider Pacific region.

The sulu was presented by Amitesh Deo, Founder of Pacific Recycling Foundation, to honour those involved in recycling, especially in Fiji.

This gesture highlighted the cultural connection and solidarity in sustainable waste management.

Deo emphasised the importance of preserving and celebrating Fijian culture globally.

He also recalled a similar instance in Nepal, where a Fijian delegate showcased Fijian culture during a waste management meeting.

The Pacific Recycling Foundation team attending the congress in Argentina  consists of four members, Founder Amitesh Deo,  Khalid Ahmed, Communications Manager Dhanjay Deo and Research Officer Vinil Prasad.
